This week’s post was inspired on Genevieve’s comment on “Man or Male? That is the question…”

Women play a great role in society; there should never be the slightest doubt about it.
So, why are they so disrespected?

When women are born they are programmed to follow a set of rules: girls don’t curse, girls keep society with girls, girls play with dolls, girls wear dresses and pink, girls cook, girls clean, girls have babies, girls get married, girls must be virgins until marriage…boys are in charge!Then we grow up, we start doubting and asking questions about the feasibility of this programme. We engage in a bellicose relationship with society (i.e. fighting for our rights) and once we have kids…Booom…we programme them in the exactly same obnoxious way! What are we doing, ladies? If there’s sexism in the world today (after all the efforts made in 1900-1930, and in the late 60’s) it’s because mommies raise sexists. If we have women batterers, it’s because mothers allow their kids to witness marital violence. If we have disrespectful men and women, it’s because moms submit themselves to disrespect! That is the reason why Freud said, “if it’s not one thing, it’s your mother!”.
Motherhood is one of the greatest powers women have, although some are convinced that it is just an exertion of nature!
When giving birth, women hold the world’s destiny in their hands, for from that moment onwards they have the responsibility to raise the finest human being on earth (of course we all know that there are things that a mom cannot control. For instance, a woman has several kids, some of them might live up to the parents’ expectations, others not so much – look at Abel and Cain – however moms should mould their offspring in the best way possible).

Let’s move on to the wives. Marriage is not equal to submission nor mutation; therefore I don’t understand nor accept those women who after marriage “think, speak and breathe” their husbands; thus depleting themselves of their own personality and intelligence.
To understand my point of view I invite you to take a peek at 3 types of females:
  1. Evita Peron type: she comes from an extremely humble family, she witnesses the struggle of women in her entourage…what does she do once she reaches Power? She allows her devious side to emerge.

  2. Eva Braun type: she completely annuls herself. She is abused and humiliated by her man, yet she shows no reaction. She knows about the suffering inflicted on people (Jews and gentiles) yet she does nothing and says lesser…

  3. Mrs. and Misses Pinochet type: they are aware of everything that goes down: abductions, rape, torture, mass murder, mutilation of body and soul! Even so they support their husbands and daddies, they live at large, and they manage to sleep at night knowing that there are other mothers, wives, daughters, girlfriends howling over their hubbies and dads’ crimes. When asked about it, they have the nerve to say, “I didn’t know about it!”.
These types of women should also be brought before the International Court, and be judged along with their accomplices, for they are as much liable as the head of the group is.
The described actions are the main reason behind the belief that women are accountable for most of the nuisances in the world.

My perception dictates that a woman is primarily responsible for the well being of her society; for in my eyes we come as guardians of Humanity, meaning that we should have the ability to parent even if we are not one.

  2. ENCORE, Max!!!

    I love the fact that you put women in their respective place (by asking them to be responsible not for their own lives but also for their potency to influence society in general) without putting men down.

    BRILLIANT!!!

  3. Following is how I responded to your comment:
    Max,
    Stop it....you've got me blushing. I won't lie, I like the awards (probably a throw back to my childhood), but what I like better is the fact that you keep coming back, and reading what I have to say. I should be thanking you.

    BTW, a few years ago, more than I care to think about, I was on a cruise that stopped for a day at Lisboa. One of the most breathtaking sites was seeing the shoreline from Cintra (spelling???). Maybe it was because of my youth, but that castle seemed larger than life.

  4. Max;

    After reading your article I then was forced to read it out loud to my wife and her sister.

    They both thought that Portugal must be on another planet or in the 18th century or so it seems from the west coast of Canada.

    This is the classic nature vs. nurture conversation, the biological genetic component vs. socio-economic component.

    There have been many studies on the effects of changed gender identity play with children, girls made to play with trucks etc, and boys made to play with dolls (and shown to use them in a relational manner) and every time when the children are unmonitored they almost uniformly go back to classic gender play, girls with dolls, boys with trucks, of course there are some exceptions to this but these are the overwhelmingly predominant results, I have personally read many of these kinds of studies.

    In my culture boys and girls, men and women are truly seen as equal by the vast majority of people. Yet both genders do have predominant tendencies towards certain things in life. Typically woman are more inclined towards children than are men for example, but this is more a matter of preference, I personally know men that are the primary care givers of the children and people don’t think twice about it, except perhaps certain subcultures within the greater society that have a propensity towards either extreme in the political arena.

    Motherhood is of extreme importance and we disregard it at our peril, and the exact same is true of fatherhood. Both model relationships. Fathers show daughters how a man should be towards a woman in a relationship, the mother displays how a woman is in a relationship. Male and female children learn from both parents.

    Husbands and wives in an optimal situation become “one flesh”; they are to be as one. Marriage is not a 50-50 deal it is 100-100, it is a form of completion of the other. It is not to be adversarial but a matter of mutual submission and servant hood, we are to be complimentary (working together as a team, like two animals yoked together at a task, if they do not pull in harmony the job cannot be done properly)) not in opposition this is the Biblical model, and this is something I have often observed perfectly displayed.

  5. It's sometime tough to be a woman these day - especially if you don't want to fall into any extreme. Here we have the American woman, who worked their butt off to get where they are and won't compromise on anything. Kinda sad... Yet, it's better than being a submissive housewife. I guess.

    You have some interesting insights !

    How are Portguese man ? I mean not physically :$ but... are they the macho kind ?

  6. Hi Max,
    A lovely place you have here. I came by yesterday, but I could not read Portuguese.

    You have a cogent argument for the power of women. We do have power, lots of it and it is rarely used in it's most effective way. It has become more of a negative rather than positive.I know women are culpable for most wars of the would; think of Helen of Troy, a face that launched a thousand ships, etc. I don't know whether it's because we are outnumbered by men that we feel powerless or that we simply don't recognize our power. :-O

    At the end of the day, everyone faces their own moral court, rife with karma. We are being judged by everything we do by a higher court, so we should be the best people we can be without inflicting harm on other human beings. We should live as if we are being watched by the gods and speak as if we are speaking to God.

    Btw, I love the term, "guardians of humanity."

  7. Hi Max,
    where do people want to be?
    what are their choices?

    as long as the basic biological
    priciples apply, there are features that hardly will be overcome.

    emotional linking by a biological mother can't be explained (at least its not easy ) hence there's tradition, social commitments etc etc.

    But there is always a choice.
    (genetically it wont be so easy in the next 200 000 years)

    Perhaps there will be a testoesterona measuring device that can point out a hint, telling us our evolution path.

    ok (provoking) ... man rules!

    Best Regards
    Gallardo (man) eh eh eh

  8. Hi Max: Another thought-provoking post; although surely there are more than these 3 archetypes that women fit into, right? It seems demeaning to think we must be either subservient or deviant in society. What about our more positive, empowering role models?

  9. Hi Max, you visited my blog a while back and left a comment so I am just visiting you in return. Women are potentially very powerful in our society but not all women are in their day to day lives empowered. Many women still struggle with abusive husbands for example. One of the mistakes I think we have made as a society is that we started to devalue the role of women in their homemaking role. There was a strand of thought that said that soemhow a woman was not fully developed unless she ended up in a high powered job. Yet the basis of our whole family is the socialisation of our children in families and women have a very powerful role there.
    I am not a great believer in stereotyping people into little boxes though and I think we do better when we just treat each other as human beings and dont lay burdens of gender or other sterotypes on each other.

  10. I too love your term "guardians of humanity". I believe women have more power through influence than direct power. We have a choice about how we use our influence in this world. And yes, we have a responsibility as well.

    Another type of women is the Proverbs 31 women. She is no "mamby pamby" lady. She is an entrepreneur who is valued by her husband and children. She is kind, gracious and wise.

    10 [c] A wife of noble character who can find?
    She is worth far more than rubies.

    11 Her husband has full confidence in her
    and lacks nothing of value.

    12 She brings him good, not harm,
    all the days of her life.

    13 She selects wool and flax
    and works with eager hands.

    14 She is like the merchant ships,
    bringing her food from afar.

    15 She gets up while it is still dark;
    she provides food for her family
    and portions for her servant girls.

    16 She considers a field and buys it;
    out of her earnings she plants a vineyard.

    17 She sets about her work vigorously;
    her arms are strong for her tasks.

    18 She sees that her trading is profitable,
    and her lamp does not go out at night.

    19 In her hand she holds the distaff
    and grasps the spindle with her fingers.

    20 She opens her arms to the poor
    and extends her hands to the needy.

    21 When it snows, she has no fear for her household;
    for all of them are clothed in scarlet.

    22 She makes coverings for her bed;
    she is clothed in fine linen and purple.

    23 Her husband is respected at the city gate,
    where he takes his seat among the elders of the land.

    24 She makes linen garments and sells them,
    and supplies the merchants with sashes.

    25 She is clothed with strength and dignity;
    she can laugh at the days to come.

    26 She speaks with wisdom,
    and faithful instruction is on her tongue.

    27 She watches over the affairs of her household
    and does not eat the bread of idleness.

    28 Her children arise and call her blessed;
    her husband also, and he praises her:

    29 "Many women do noble things,
    but you surpass them all."

    30 Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting;
    but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.

    31 Give her the reward she has earned,
    and let her works bring her praise at the city gate.

  12. WOW! That was an awefully strong point of view!

    Very interesting of you to note that you're right, women should program themselves as such.

    Little evidence suggests that men are better than woman in many ways except physical strength. Men are different but not necessarily better.

    Women should be forthright and voice their opinions when the time is right.

    Well, as long as it is following logic, not voicing a different opinion for the sake of offering an opinion haha!

    GREAT POST like usual!!

  13. What an interesting perspective! I completely agree! I will definitely follow your blog closely. :)

  14. Indeed, both women and men have such responsibility, but yes, it seems that many women are left with this special power. Thanks for visiting.
